"Cigar Enthusiasts Enjoy Sharing Pastime"

When it comes to the world of cigar smoking, it's easy to become lost in the haze of seemingly endless varieties, terminology and even stereotypes.

But after spending time with several local cigar enthusiasts, the smoky curtains were parted. Cigar smokers, by and large, are a group united in their passion for a great smoke, but also the fellowship they share.

Just past 5 p.m., husband and wife Bob and Yamilette sit down together in the immaculate living room of their home near Fort Bragg. The faintest hint of a sweet aroma greets guests at the front door. It's coming from cigar smoke.

For the next hour, the couple will enjoy a good cigar and each other's company.

"The time we spend smoking cigars together is some of the best quality time we have," said Bob. "You can rediscover the magic of conversation, enjoy the ambiance and enjoy smoking a good cigar with your soul mate."

Bob began smoking cigars 10 years ago after a friend and fellow youth hockey coach suggested they get a victory cigar at the end of the season.

"I was drawn to the social, festive aspect of it," said Bob. "That's really the best way to be introduced to cigars - to realize it's something you can have fun doing with other people."

Yamilette was introduced to cigars nearly two years ago at a family cookout. She wasn't a fan at first.

"I was very much against having cigars in the house," said Yamilette. "I was, 'No, no, no.' But then I tried one - just a few puffs - and I was really surprised. I didn't think I'd like it, but I finished that cigar."
